UK Social-Networking Site Usage Is Europe's Highest The European social-networking community stood at 127.3 million unique visitors in August - reaching 56 percent of the European online population, according to a comScore report into the online habits of the UK's social networking community, reports MarketingCharts.

The reports is based on data collected through comScore's recently released Segment Metrix H/M/L analytical tool. Among the findings:

• UK social-networking usage was the highest in Europe, with 24.9 million unique visitors - 78 percent of the total UK online population - participating.
  
  
• Usage of social-networking sites in the UK was heavier than the European average in terms of hours spent, pages viewed, and the number of visits per month:
  
  
• The average visitor to social networking sites in the UK spent 5.8 hours per month on those sites in August and made 23.3 visits.
  
  
• That was a significantly heavier usage than in France, which averaged 2 hours per month and 16.8 visits per visitor.
  
  
• Usage in Germany averaged 3.1 hours per month and 13.8 visits per visitor."

AMI@Work

The AMI@Work communities’ website is now up and running. The website is becoming a collaborative web environment where all members are invited to take part in the editing of the news, events and other pages as well as creating new blog entries and participate to the polls. Bookmark the new EU community URL (www.ami-communities.eu). This new URL is the new entry point to the AMI@Work communities.

I've been a member of the Ami@Work community for some time. The discussion has not been very active. It started off quite well but then the activity has seased. I've decided to find out the reasons to why communities are not operating as actively as expected. I'll write about this later. I'll interview some of the central activists.

Networking and Workshops

While networking sessions provide a meeting place for communities that possibly never worked together before, workshops present the state-of-the-art in a domain and provide a platform for knowledge exchange and learning. "They are less formal discussion groups than the official conference sessions, encouraging active participation and lateral thinking. They are open to everybody who wishes to attend." Informs the Helsinki IST 2006 website.

21 - 23 November 2006 IST Event 2006 Helsinki, Finland. The IST conference is the main networking event and showcase covering research and development in information society technologies (IST).
